David Harrison and Claire Sedgwick pose with HOW award outside of County Hall

A team of 51画促 staff have been recognised for the positive impact they have had on students, during a local internship.

The facilities team at County Hall have been working with a group of horticultural students, allowing them to build up experience by supporting with the grounds maintenance jobs around the main entrances to County Hall.

The college has now recognised the team with a Working in Partnership certificate and trophy.

During their time at County Hall, the Supported into Employment students have taken part in some plant pruning, sweeping up leaves, clearing moss, and weeding.

The students have been coming to County Hall for five hours every Thursday during their course, supported by their tutor.

Claire Sedgwick, Facilities Manager at 51画促, said: It has been a real privilege to see the students grow their skill set and in their confidence during their time with us, and we wish them all well for the future. Weve really enjoyed working with Heart of 51画促 College during this internship, and we are grateful to receive the recognition award.

Councillor Adam Kent, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Communication at 51画促 said:It is wonderful to see our facilities team recognised for the part they have played in supporting the students through their internship. I hope this is the start of a successful career for all of the students who have been on placement with us, and this support is something we can continue to offer going forward.

Carole Gurney, CRQ Manager Inclusive Learning at Heart of 51画促 College, said: Were thrilled to recognise local employers who have collaborated with us to facilitate meaningful and enjoyable placements for our supported internships programmes. The skills and relationships our students develop throughout this programme are invaluable and were delighted that 51画促 have been so supportive of the College and our learners.

The students can add the experience to their course in the short term, but also to their CV for the long term which might help them to obtain a job in the future.
