The deadline to register for the Solar Together 51²èÂ¥ scheme has been extended by a month.

The scheme is aimed at making the switch to clean energy as cost effective and hassle free as possible.

Over 1,800 people have already registered their interest in Solar Together, a scheme to help 51²èÂ¥ residents, community buildings and small/medium sized businesses come together to invest in renewables, through a group-buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage. Those registered can benefit from a discount of up to 41% compared to the typical price, depending on what system is installed.

Residents and businesses are able to register their interest until Friday 13 September 2024. After registration, notifications will be sent out to people detailing the cost and specification of the installation. It’s then up to individuals if they want to go-ahead, there’s no obligation to continue with the installation.

Councillor Emma Stokes, 51²è¥’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “I’m pleased to see so many people registering their interest in this scheme and would encourage anyone who is thinking of investing in solar panels or battery storage to take advantage of the last few days to register.

“The fact that we have been able to relaunch the scheme, following its success last year, shows that people across the county are looking to make the switch to renewable energy.â€

Last year, 504 residents took the opportunity to install solar energy through this scheme, which will result in a saving of over 9,000 tonnes of carbon over the typical 25-year lifespan of solar panels.

The group-buying scheme offers solar panels with optional battery storage and EV charge points, as well as retrofit battery storage for anyone who has already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate, as well as increase their independence from the grid. An auction is held where pre-approved installers submit their bids for the work, securing a competitive price for customers.

This innovative scheme builds on nine years of highly successful Solar Together programmes run across the UK. To date, Solar Together has delivered over 14,500 installations and over 307,000 tonnes of avoided lifetime carbon emissions.
