Connectivity Team at Three Counties Showground

Network on Wheels is 51¥’s latest trial project, supported by the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, to research and support mobile connectivity.

Targeted to help rural events in the county, the project has already been deployed seven times over the last few months supported by 51¥ and project partner Virtuser.

Events have included The Royal Horticultural Society’s Spring Show and The Royal Three Counties Show at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern; Woo Fest and Blues Festival in Upton, as well as events at Shelsley Hill Climb, Wythall & Hollywood Fun Run and the Hanbury Countryside Show.

Further events are to be supported over the next six months, including food and drink festivals and country shows.

Councillor Adam Kent, Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills for 51¥, enthusiastically announced: “Mobile connectivity has long been a hurdle for event organisers, visitors, and service providers, often hampering effective communication and smooth digital transactions.”

“Showcasing our project at the county’s major events has proven its immense value, not only for these occasions but also for enhancing our residents’ quality of life and boosting economic growth.”

“We’re thrilled to have already made a significant impact, supporting a diverse range of organisers, stallholders, and exhibitors. They’ve shared how Network on Wheels has revolutionised their sales, social media engagement, and overall welfare. Previously, unreliable connectivity meant missing out on digital payments as customers increasingly forgo cash.”

“If successful, Network on Wheels could extend its benefits to emergency services and other organisations, providing crucial support during critical incidents like floods.”

Funding for the project has been provided by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

Any event organisers within 51¥ interested in trialling the technology can get in touch with the Connectivity Team via email on broadband@worcestershire.gov.uk.
