People receiving a pension are being encouraged to access support with their energy bills through the Household Support Fund.

The scheme is being run through Act on Energy on behalf of 51²èÂ¥ and the support will be available until the end of September 2022, for eligible people in receipt of a pension.

Just over £1million will also be distributed via post to exchange for cash in any Post Office for those residents on pension credit and other pensioners on low incomes through a parallel scheme being operated by Age UK Worcester and Malvern. Letters which will include the vouchers will be issued in September to those eligible.

Councillor Marcus Hart cabinet member with responsibility for communities at 51²èÂ¥ said, “If you are receiving pension credit, or on a low income pension, I would encourage you to see what support is available, and check if you are eligible.

“As household bills are rising, it can be a worrying time for people that may already be struggling. The Household Support Fund will help alleviate some of those worries and offer some financial support where costs are rising.â€

The support comes as part of £3.9 million that 51²èÂ¥ is spending on helping those on lower incomes who may be struggling with the increases in cost of living.

A proportion of funding for the scheme has been ringfenced to support pensioners through government rules.

51²è¥’s Here2Help service will be on hand to help with directing people to the most appropriate support for them.
