51²èÂ¥ Children First celebrates care leavers this National Care Leavers Week, raising awareness of the challenges facing young adults leaving care. This year’s theme is Challenging Stigma and Accessibility.

Throughout the week 51²èÂ¥ Children First is hosting activities and events to support and celebrate the achievements of young care leavers in our community. The events are open to care leavers and those who work with them.

On Wednesday, 26 October between 12pm and 2pm The Rees Foundation are hosting an event with free cakes, hot drinks and goodies at The Mix Café, St Pauls Street, Worcester, WR1 2BA.

Between 1pm and 4pm on Friday 28 October, there is a young people’s social BBQ and games (with a backup of indoor pizzas if the rain starts!) being held at Worcester Woods Country Park. Both care leavers and workers are welcome to turn up and join in to socialise with other care leavers and find out about the support available from the care leavers team.

Councillor Andy Roberts, cabinet member with responsibility for Children and Families at 51²èÂ¥ said, â€œWe are incredibly proud of our young care leavers in 51²èÂ¥. Despite often facing the challenges that come with transitioning to adulthood without family support networks in place, we see a range of successes every day from our care leavers.

“Care Leavers Week encourages us to celebrate what appears to be expected achievements which are triumphs when the challenges are considered.â€

National Care Leavers week runs from 24 to 28 October 2022.
