Bromsgrove town centre improvements
On this page you will find information about the completed work to upgrade the High Street, and planned works in Chapel Street to improve the public space environment in the town centre.
Background
The Government has announced that Bromsgrove District Council was successful in its bid for funding to improve the town centre. As a result, we are working in partnership with the District Council to deliver public space improvements.
The schemes aim to deliver a high-quality public space using sustainable, maintainable and appropriate surfacing materials which will complement the surrounding area.
Chapel Street
Public space upgrades in Chapel Street will include:
- footway areas upgraded with natural stone paving to complement the High Street
- new street trees
- new cycle parking and benches
- Improved drainage
- removal of excessive street clutter
The work will be carried out Monday to Friday. Pedestrian access will be maintained to frontages at all times; however, vehicle access will be restricted.
For safety reasons, a pedestrian diversion will be in place between Windsor Street and the High Street for works at the south end of Chapel Street
Work is scheduled to start week commencing 19 August 2024, and the works are programmed to last for up to 12 weeks.

Public space upgrades took place in the South End of the High Street, outside the pedestrianised area, and works included:
- footway areas upgraded with new paving
- planting of semi-mature trees and new benches
- new hooped cycle stands
- new bollards
- drainage improvements
Work started on site in Spring 2024 and is due to finish ahead of schedule in August 2024.
